Immigrant Justice

The Resurrection Project

In 2014, The Resurrection Project (TRP) launched its Immigrant Justice department and strategy, marking a pivotal step in advancing immigrant rights in Illinois. Since then, TRP’s Immigrant Justice team has been at the forefront of strengthening the state’s immigrant justice ecosystem. From championing pro-immigrant campaigns to expanding empowerment programs and delivering direct legal services, TRP has become a vital force in building a more equitable future for immigrant communities.

Some highlights throughout the years include:

  • Winning, creating, and administering the Chicago Legal Protection Fund (2017)

  • Winning, creating, and co-administering the Illinois Access to Justice (ILA2J) program (2020)

  • Winning and establishing the first ever Immigration Unit within the Cook County Public Defender’s office (2021)

  • Establishing the Chicago Resiliency Fund

  • Spearheading centralized workshops to help newly arrived immigrants apply for their Employment Authorization Document (EAD) or Temporary Protected Status (TPS)
